Responsibilities:
● Determine sequence of installation by studying blueprints, sketches, or building plans
● Install, repair, and maintain water, air, gas, and sewer lines along with acid waste systems
● Test plumbing systems by filling them with water or air to identify leaks
● Cut, thread, braze, solder, and pro-press piping for installations and repairs
● Assist in completing projects by installing and repairing plumbing systems and parts
● Perform routine maintenance to maintain plumbing systems
● Troubleshoot plumbing issues, advising supervisors and recommending actions
● Maintain inventory by checking stock levels and anticipating needed supplies
● Comply with federal, state, and local building codes
● Ensure a safe and clean working environment by following procedures and regulations
● Operate tools and equipment effectively, including performing preventive maintenance
● Collaborate with other trades personnel within the campus utility systems
● Complete work orders using the AIM System program
● Respond to after-hours emergencies and support campus events as needed
● Identify safety hazards and work towards correcting them
● Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
● Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent
● Experience: At least 3 years of plumbing experience (5 years preferred)
● Valid Texas Driver’s License
● Plumbing apprentice card through the State of Texas (Journeyman card preferred)
● Must be insurable under university motor vehicle requirements
Skills:
● Knowledge of plumbing installation and maintenance practices, along with blueprint reading
● Ability to operate necessary equipment for the job
● Good communication skills for conveying technical information
● Proficient in monitoring performance and making improvements
Physical Requirements:
● Ability to read from screens and printed materials
● Clear verbal communication skills
● Strength to lift and move up to 50 pounds
● Manual dexterity for various tasks
