Responsibilities:
● Lead plumbing operations across multiple academic, administrative, and residential buildings.
● Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and fixtures following the Massachusetts Plumbing Code.
● Conduct advanced diagnostics on complex plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices and hydronic systems.
● Test and certify backflow prevention devices per Massachusetts DEP regulations.
● Provide guidance and oversight to junior trades staff and contractors.
● Plan and execute plumbing-related capital improvements in coordination with facilities leadership.
● Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
● Respond to emergency plumbing issues during and outside of regular hours.
● Maintain accurate records of work performed and inspections.
● Ensure safe use, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
● Collaborate with other trades on multidisciplinary projects.
● Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or GED required.
● Valid Massachusetts Master Plumber’s License required.
● Minimum of 7–10 years of plumbing experience, including 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
● Completion of a Massachusetts-approved plumbing apprenticeship program or equivalent training required.
● Experience in higher education, healthcare, or similar complex facilities is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Strong understanding of Massachusetts Plumbing Code and relevant safety standards.
● Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for both routine and emergency issues.
● Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
● Proficient in interpreting plans, blueprints, and technical manuals.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration.
● Comfortable using maintenance software and computerized work order systems.
Physical Abilities:
● Ability to stand or walk for up to 8 hours a day.
● Lift or carry up to 35 lbs frequently, and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
● Must be able to work in various environmental conditions, including confined spaces and at heights.
